Scarlett Johansson Does UK Cosmopolitan January 2009

Scarlett Johansson proved why she’s one of the world’s hottest women as she graced the cover of Uk’s Cosmopolitan for its January 2009 issue.

The US actress, who made an appearance at the Nobel Comittee Banquet in Oslo this week, made a sultry pose in a bust-enhancing black dress for the sexy shoot.
Scarlett has been doing the rounds recently to promote her new movie “The Spirit”, which is released on New Year’s Day. The film is an adaptation of the comic series of the same name.
The actress broke her silence about wedding Ryan Reynolds. The usually fiercely private actress, 24, calls married life “a very beautiful time for me, saying: “This is a very beautiful time for me. Getting married is a huge moment in anyone’s life, and the few months leading up to it were a little crazy.”

She continued: “But Ryan and I are in love, and we’re enjoying evolving our relationship together. I feel that my life and my work are heading in the right direction.”
She said that she’d even “love to” spend more time in Canada, saying that it’s “such a beautiful country and the people are so friendly. I might get through immigration faster now, too!”
She added: “The most romantic love is seeing people who’ve been together, or who’ve known each other, for a long time - like two best friends, or a husband and wife who’ve been together for 50 years, and are still so excited to see that person come home. It might be rare but that’s the most romantic kind of love.”

Scarlett Johansson's family race

Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds are desperate to start a family.

The pair - who married in an intimate ceremony in September - are reportedly keen to have a child as soon as possible, and are already discussing the best time for Scarlett to conceive.

A source told the Chicago Sun Times newspaper: "Scarlett and Ryan are madly in love and want to start a family sooner rather than later. Scarlett is keen to be a young mom and does not plan to be the sort of women who leaves motherhood too late and starts worrying about her biological clock ticking."

The 23-year-old actress - who recently completed filming her new movie 'He's Not That Into You' - isn't due to start working on her next project 'Amazon' until late next year, prompting speculation now could be the perfect time for her to get pregnant.

The pair are also said to be contemplating adopting a child from an American inner city.

Scarlett and Ryan - who began dating in spring 2007 - tied the knot in a remote resort near Vancouver, Canada.

Just weeks before the ceremony, Scarlett had insisted she had no plans to rush into marriage, claiming she was still enjoying being engaged.

Top swap Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson, Megan Fox, Jessica Biel and Selma Blair are set to feature in a new line of celebrity trading cards.

The PopCardz range, which will be available in five-card packs in US shops from November, has been approved by the stars themselves with all proceeds from sales going to selected charities.

The back of each card includes the star's birth date, hometown, motto, favourite charity, movie, song, book, place, sport, food and a secret - Selma Blair reveals she wore an eye patch for a year when she was seven as she was embarrassed about having a lazy eye.

The 'Hellboy' actress said: "Tabloids are so prevalent, I think this is way for kids - or whoever is collecting them - to find something out about their favourite celebrities, and find out really positive things about them.

"It's a benevolent, cool thing, but I'm sure everyone will be like, 'I'll give you 20 Selma Blairs for one Scarlett Johansson!' "

Other celebrities who appear on the cards include Jared Leto, Ashley Tisdale, Hayden Panettiere, Jessica Alba and Christina Ricci.

PopCardz are the brainchild of Ted Kurie and Christian Troy who used to work as Hollywood agents.

The pair joined forces with entertainment product company A-List Global Media to launch the venture, but insist only celebrities with real talents will feature in the set.

Christian said: "We were really looking for artists who were credible and popular - but not because of scandal."

Scarlett Johansson: Curves are what make me a woman

Actress says she'd never want to be stick-thin

Scarlett Johansson has hit out at skinny actresses, saying she loves her shapely figure.

'There are a lot of actors around Hollywood who are just too thin for my taste,' she says.
'I don't understand this obsession for being stick-thin. I could never be like that – it's just not my body shape.
'I would never want to lose my curves, because curves are what make women look like women. They are what make you sexy.'
But Scarlett, 23, confesses that she'd never allow herself to put on too much weight.

'I'm a person in the public eye and I need to maintain a certain appearance, so I'm not going to balloon into somebody who is very much bigger than I am now,' she tells Weekend.
'But there's a weight I can maintain which is slim and healthy, and I think I can be my own judge of what feels comfortable to me and how I like my body to look.'

Scarlett Johansson in quickie wedding

Scarlett Johansson married her fiance Ryan Reynolds over the weekend in a hush-hush ceremony.

Publicist Meredith O'Sullivan confirmed the couple had married, but did not provide details.

The story was first reported by Us Weekly on its website, saying the small wedding took place at a resort in Vancouver with family and friends in attendance.

Johansson recently said the pair were "just enjoying our time".

"So, you know, we're just taking it easy. And no big plan yet. But it's a good time and we're just ... enjoying our time to be young and engaged.

"I mean, I'm 23. There's no reason to rush into it. Everything feels very natural and relaxed."

Reynolds, 31, was born in Vancouver, and he and New Yorker Johansson have been engaged since May this year.

She rose to fame as a child actress in movies such as The Horse Whisperer and increased her starpower in films like Lost in Translation and Match Point.

Reynolds began acting as a teenager, gained notoriety through comic roles in films like Van Wilder, and recently has starred in dramas such as sci-fi mystery The Nines.

Scarlett Johansson on Monogamy

While she admits it may not be the natural instinct of human beings and that it does require effort, actress Scarlett Johansson feels that she and fiancé Ryan Reynolds will never stray from each other, WENN reports. Johansson feels that she and Reynolds are among the elite group of people who can actually stay in monogamous relationships. “Monogamy can be hard work for some people. I don't think it applies to everybody, and I don't think a lot of people can do it,” she muses.

However, Johansson, as her past bears out, feels she can do it. On previous relationships with people such as Josh Hartnett and Jared Leto, the actress says: “I believe in finding a soul mate. I've always been in monogamous relationships. I would never want to be in an open one. It'd be too awful.” But the actress also admits: “I don't think it's a natural instinct for human beings” to remain monogamous.
Psychology aside, Johansson and Reynolds – who announced their engagement in May – are ready to travel the long haul together.

The Spirit's Sexy Femme Fatales Finally Speak!

What do you get when you cast Eva Mendes, Scarlett Johansson, Jaime King, and Sarah Paulson together? Frank Miller's The Spirit of course! If you're getting excited just thinking about these four bombshell beauties kicking ass, then just wait until we share with you this fun little "talking" poster set today. We've featured a couple of sexy posters for The Spirit previously, including this one with Eva Mendes, but nothing compares to this. Yahoo has debuted the full quintuplet set of femme fatale posters for The Spirit with an extra special feature. If you head to their page and mouse over each one, you can hear the actual line quoted on the poster being spoken. That just makes your heart melt, doesn't it?!

I wonder if someone actually questioned the quotes the first time around and Lionsgate thought it would be "fun" to use the actual audio to prove that they came from the film. I know I got a kick out of hearing the sexy voices of Mendes, Johansson, King, and Paulson. I mean, who wouldn't want to hear Scarlett Johansson say "on your knees then" or Jaime King say "come to me lover." What a brilliant marketing stunt! This page has been open for the past few hours on my computer - I can't get enough of it!

The Spirit is both written and directed by legendary comic book author Frank Miller, who previously worked with Robert Rodriguez to direct segments of Sin City. The film is based Will Eisner's newspaper comic strip of the same name that originally debuted in 1940. The Spirit will hit theaters everywhere on December 25th, Christmas Day, later this year. Watch the teaser trailer if you haven't already!

The Scarlett (Johansson) Letter is "O" for Obama

With all the comparisons to JFK that Barack Obama has had lately, it's about time he gets his own Marilyn Monroe. Actress Scarlett Johansson has made her support of Obama no big secret. In the past she's quipped that she's "engaged" to the presumptive Democratic nominee (actually, she's betrothed to actor Ryan Reynolds) and appeared in his star-studded "Yes We Can" YouTube video. Now the Lost in Translation star tells Politico.com that she and Obama are pen pals.

The Daily News is all over the story, declaring on page 3, "OMG! BAM & SCAR JO R CYBER PALS!" with a glam shot of Johansson in a low-cut dress juxtaposed with a photo of Obama boarding a plane.
The inevitable backlash is looming. I can already picture the columns in right-wing media: "Obama has time to cyberchat with movie stars, but what does he do for Joe Sixpack?" Considering that the current critiques of the candidate are about his amnesia on when he had his last cigarette and his audacity to hire "D.C. denizens" to assist in his VP search (see Michelle Malkin on page 6 of today's Post), kvetching about shooting off a few e-mails to a movie star could be a quick, glamorous way to impugn Obama. Add a few innuendos and voila!—instant "scandal."

Even Johansson herself understands that her constant campaigning for the Illinois senator could spur a backlash. She tells Politico.com, "Even I’m wary of celebrity endorsements…I don’t want to seem like I’m holier than thou. We all have the same right to vote and, especially in this technical age where we all can broadcast our opinions, we all have the opportunity to entice others to vote…if the spotlight is on me, I might as well try to direct it on things and causes that I believe in." Maybe it's time to dial it down a bit, ScarJo.

Scarlett Johansson shows cleavage at movie premier

London (ANI): Scarlett Johansson made sure that all eyes were on her while she walked the red carpet for the premiere of new Dreamworks production 'Match Point in LA' by flaunting her cleavage. The actress, who recently got engaged to her lucky boyfriend Ryan Reynolds, wore a plunging dress that showed off her magnificent chest in all its glory.

Johansson released her debut album 'Anywhere I Lay My Head' this week and is reportedly so pleased with the disc of Tom Waits covers, she wants the chance to play them live. However, the actress admitted that she'd have to conquer her stage fear first. "It would be sad to not get everybody (band members) together. Whether it's at a festival or somewhere that's kind of fun," The Sun quoted Johansson, as saying.

"(But) I have horrible stage fright, so it would have to be overcome. People approach me (about playing live) and my usual answer is, 'Ah, I'll think about that'. "When I do think about it, I start to get really sweaty and uncomfortable and itchy around the neck," she added.

No Tour For Scarlett Johansson

Making music wasn’t the best idea Scarlett Johansson’s ever had, but at least she’s spared us the pain and torture of a tour. She has decided that there will be no promotional tour for her new album, ‘Anywhere I Lay My Head.’ Her debut album, which was a collection of Tom Waits covers, hit shelves on May 19th. ScarJo, who recently admitted she suffers from stagefright has ruled any future gigs even though she was rumored to be performing at summer music festivals.

A spokesman for her record label Warner Music says,
It’s purely a hobby for her. Now that she’s engaged as well (to actor Ryan Reynolds) the opportunities seem to have become even more limited. If it was a hobby, why the hell release an album? Shoulda kept it for her ears only.

SCARLETT JOHANSSON - JOHANSSON SNUBS CANNES PREMIERE

SCARLETT JOHANSSON snubbed the premiere of WOODY ALLEN's latest movie VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA at the Cannes International Film Festival after movies bosses reportedly refused to cater to her diva demands. The blonde beauty - who stars in the new movie alongside Penelope Cruz - was expected to grace the red carpet at the French festival on Saturday (17May08), but missed the prestigious premiere amid rumours movie bosses at the French arm of Warner Bros Films - the production's distributors - reportedly denied her extravagant hospitality expectations.
According to British newspaper the Daily Mail, the Lost In Translation star made a string of demands to ensure her appearance at the renowned festival - including a $8,000 (GBP4,000) a day make-up artist.

Reports also suggest Johansson was unwilling to stay at a luxurious central Cannes hotel with director Allen and co-star Penelope Cruz, preferring a suite at a hotel 30 miles away.
A source tells the publication, "While Woody's terribly fond of Scarlett, he was a little upset that she wasn't being a team player." Johansson's male-star, Spanish Oscar-winner Javier Bardem, also missed the movie's Cannes premiere on Saturday, citing personal family reasons for his non-appearance.

Scarlett Johansson Releases an Album

About two weeks from now, 23-year-old Hollywood screen siren Scarlett Johansson will release her debut album, Anywhere I Lay My Head. People.com says that the album mostly consists of Tom Waits covers, as well as “Song for Jo,” a track that Johansson wrote with her producer, TV on the Radio’s David Andrew Sitek. The first single, “Falling Down,” and “Fannin Street” have David Bowie singing backup.

Describing “Song for Jo,” Johansson says, “It was a memory of someone that's very close to me: a vague and blissful memory of my wanton youth or whatever. It's a song about friendship, I think.”
He calls her sound “Tinkerbell on cough syrup.”

When asked about what her fans will think as she includes music to her résumé, she says, “I never worry about that kind of thing. I hope people enjoy it.” But why Tom Waits? “I'm not trying to prove anything on this album,” Johansson says in a statement that’s on People.com. “I just love [Tom Waits's] music.”
Scarlett Johansson recently announced her engagement to Ryan Reynolds. She will be in Woody Allen’s Vicky Christina Barcelona next. Her album, Anywhere I Lay My Head is available May 20 on Rhino Records.

Scarlett Johansson Is Singing A Happy Song

FITSNews - April 30, 2008 - Surpise … actress Scarlett Johansson is no longer just a movie star, she’s a recording artist, too! Well … if you consider someone butchering a bunch of Tom Waits covers to be “art.” Which we do, of course, provided they have Scarlett’s knockers. The good news for Johansson (other than her rack) is that there are some incredibly melodic moments on her new Anywhere I Lay My Head album … the bad news is that all of them occur when she’s not singing.

We know with the economy tanking the way it is there’s a growing market for depressing down-tempo crap like this, but even people who want to kill themselves can appreciate decent vocals.
Johansson’s voice? The best she can hope for is that the CIA buys a bunch of these CD’s to play while they’re interrogating al Queda suspects or something. “You don’t know where Makmoud’s dirty bomb is? Well, let’s just see what Miss Johansson has to say about that (dum-dum-dum).” Hell, this album doesn’t even hit stores for another three weeks and it’s probably already breaking the Geneva Convention.

Johansson snubbed musical role

Andrew Lloyd Webber was left devastated after Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson snubbed a starring role in his hit musical adaptation of 'The Sound of Music'. The musical maestro fell for the screen starlet's vocal talents after he spent hours on the roof of an exclusive Los Angeles hotel practicing show tunes with her.

And he was eager for the 'Lost In Translation' star to take the lead role of Maria in the musical - insisting Johansson is a "natural star" for the stage.
However, their musical rendezvous was left tarnished - after the star had to decline the part due to her busy moviemaking schedule.

The musical mogul tells Britain's Heat magazine: "She certainly has the voice to do it. She's terrific, a natural star for musicals."

What price celebrity?

HOLLYWOOD star Scarlett Johansson put herself on the eBay auction block for the charity Oxfam this week. The auction closed with a winning bid of $40,100, with a lucky English bidder winning the opportunity to accompany the star to the premiere of her upcoming film He's Just Not That Into You.

The stunning blonde isn't the first to auction her time and company for charity, and she won't be the last. Charlize Theron auctioned a chance to have dinner with her on eBay in 2002, with the winning Californian man shelling out $38,000 to dine the star, proceeds went to a South African Children's Charity Project.

South American pop star Shakira earned $14,000 for charity from one fan, now entitled to front-row tickets to her Toronto concert and a meet-and-greet with the singer, her eBay store, stocked with her underwear and stage costumes, has raised over $76,000 for her own charity to building a school for impoverished children in her native Colombia.
British actor Colin Firth scored a cool $9,300 towards Oxfam. The auction winner will accompany him to the premiere of his new film Mamma Mia! in July.

Triple J's kooky Aussie breakfast co-host Marieke Hardy was placed on the auction block by radio co-hosts Robbie Buck and Lindsay 'the Doctor' McDougal.
The lucky winner will be forking out $5,502 to a yet-to-be-announced charity, to spend an evening with the delightful Ms Hardy (before her bed time, at 8 :20pm). Kristin Davis is up next, so if you like the idea of accomanying the star to the New York premiere of the Sex and the City movie, with chauffered transport, hair and a facial, get online to Oxfam's'On The Red Carpet' store and place your bid before she's sold.

Would you pay $50,000 to meet Scarlett Johansso

Right now, a chance to "meet and greet" actress Scarlett Johansson--along with two tickets to a premiere--is going for $40,000 on ebay. Even more unbelievable? The auction doesn't close for another day, so someone could pay up to $75k to attend a premiere of "He's Just Not That Into You" and walk the red carpet with her. Well, maybe a foot or two anyway. The Rage noticed the fine print below the item which reads:
Q: How long will the meet and greet last?
A: There is no set amount of time but it is estimated to be a brief visit due to Scarlett’s schedule that evening.
Dude, count to twenty and Scarlett is gone, baby, gone. But hey, you just made a whopping tax-deductible donation to Oxfam America. Well done. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

Scarlett Johansson is auctioning a date on eBay

SCARLETT Johansson is offering one lucky man the chance to spend a night with her. The date of a lifetime is being auctioned on eBay with money raised going to UK charity Oxfam. According to Britain's Sunday Mirror, the highest bidder will get up close and personal with Scarlett, 23, at the premiere of her film He's Just Not That Into You in Los Angeles in June.

Other stars to take part in the scheme include Colin Firth, who has offered up a date to the premiere of his new film Mamma Mia! in July.
Colin Firth is to go on a date with a fan after the admirer paid $9300 to meet their idol. The lucky US bidder beat 64 others to win two tickets for the star-studded world premiere of the actor's film and a meet-and-greet with Colin. The fan will also attend the premiere after-party in London on July 1.

All proceeds raised from the unusual eBay auction go to Oxfam America. In a video on the site, Colin said: "I am Colin Firth and I am apparently what is known as an Oxfam ambassador. I'm here to offer you the chance to bid for two tickets to this summer's world premiere of the film Mamma Mia! starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan and featuring, last I checked, me.

"If you are the kind of person that always wanted to see middle aged men in tight spandex trying to sing, then this is the film for you. Please support Oxfam by bidding high."
Along with the chance to meet Colin - who has worked with Oxfam for the last five years - fans could also bid for a personalised video birthday message from the Love Actually star. The winner paid an impressive $3141.52 for the unique gift.

Other Colin auction items included signed DVDs of his movies Bridget Jones' Diary, Love Actually and Pride and Prejudice. In total, the actor raised $15,800.48.
A host of other stars, including Kristin Davis and Djimon Hounsou, are also involved in eBay auctions to raise money for Oxfam America. Oxfam America is a Boston-based branch of the international development and relief agency, Oxfam International. It offers development programmes and emergency relief services, and campaigns for change in global practices and policies that keep people in poverty.

Actually, the only true part of that last sentence is that you'll get a "personal note" from Scarlett. 100% of the proceeds from the highest bidder will go directly to a charity called "Oxfam America" which is a great one for sure.

So remember that from March 2 - 12, you'll be able to bid on this ticket to attend the premiere and have some fun with Scarlett. Who knows, you just might get the "Del Toro" treatment in a nearby elevator if you play your cards right. I for one am not a rich man so I will not be able to take part in this fantastic event. However, if anyone is feeling very charitable, I am always willing to accept a donation of my own. So check out the official details by clicking here and make sure you donate as it's for a worthy cause. You're getting the chance to help build peace in Afghanistan as well as having the opportunity to fondle Scarlett's legendary globes. Good luck bidding and a big thanks to Mike for the buzz!

Scarlett Johansson takes a walk on the weird side

Many actors and actresses have recorded albums, but Scarlett Johansson's debut release is possibly the strangest of them all. Neil McCormick meets her

Scarlett Johansson has made a record.

The languorously cool star of Lost In Translation, Girl With a Pearl Earring and Match Point, nominated by Esquire and Playboy as "the sexiest girl alive", has decided to share her singing voice with the world. From David Hasselhof to Jennifer Lopez, movie stars who sing have not covered themselves in glory. But Warner Music have been predicting great things for Johansson's debut album, Anywhere I Lay My Head, a selection of cover versions of Tom Waits songs. It won't be released until May, but this week Johansson was in London to host an intimate listening soiree.

I want you to picture Johansson, curled up on a sofa in a subterranean studio, soft and gorgeous in a sort of indie pin-up way; long platinum blonde hair; huge, blue fawnish eyes; voluptuously indecent red lips; slender but curvaceous frame. So what do you think she sounds like? A breathy vamp in the style of Marilyn Monroe? A sensual jazz diva like Norah Jones? An auto-tuned pop bimbo à la Paris Hilton? Well, none of the above actually. The first time I heard her singing voice emerge from the speakers, I thought I was listening to a guy. Her voice is very low, shaky and has about two notes in it. Think Nico, backed by the Flaming Lips. On acid. Johansson has made a seriously weird record

Just 23 years old, there is a little bit of "yes but no but" hesitant inarticulacy about her, curiously combined with airy pretentiousness. Overlooking appearances in movie stinkers such as The Nanny Diaries and The Island, she describes herself as "an artist", as in: "I don't feel like an actor or a singer - I am able to focus wherever my mind wanders." Recording is "a different field of creativity". When she says, "I'm not a musician. I can sing. I can play the kazoo," it is difficult to tell if she's joking. She doesn't seem big on irony. And anyway, her record is so bizarre, it genuinely could feature a kazoo. There is certainly a hand-wound music box, massed banjos, birdsong and the choral chirruping of detuned crickets.

In any case, Johansson approached her singing debut with an unwavering confidence in her ability to deliver. "I just knew how fantastic it sounded in the shower," she says of her voice, demonstrating the single-mindedness of every failed auditionee for Pop Idol. Like many movie stars, music is her first love. She rhapsodises about the albums she first obsessed over as a child in the '80s, the Beatles' Abbey Road and The Best of the Doors. "It was kind of unusual - most girls my age were into Ace of Bass or something." She got into acting because she wanted to do musical theatre. "I always loved to sing. Then puberty hit and I didn't want to be a showgirl any more."

She has appeared in videos for Bob Dylan, Justin Timberlake, and -recently - Will.i.am's video for Barack Obama. She also joined the Jesus and Mary Chain onstage at last year's Coachella festival (contributing barely audible backing vocals), and sang Summertime for a Hollywood charity album, Unexpected Dreams - Songs from the Stars. This predictably led to an offer to record her own album. "I have friends who would kill for that opportunity," she gushes, as if this were reason enough to make a record. She confesses that she "had no notion" what she wanted to do, vaguely contemplating torch songs and Cole Porter standards before settling on Tom Waits covers. "I have absolutely no idea why. I just love his songs."

She embarked on recording with a group of session musicians but was deeply unhappy with the results. "It sounded terrible, like fake Tom Waits records with my voice on it." Some might say Waits's voice is quite terrible enough in itself. It is a gruff, barking, dramatic instrument which he often employs in a visceral, percussive fashion, ripping into his surreally poetic lyrics to an insane tapestry of gothic sonic invention. It is hard to know what Johansson thought she might add to this.

All she knew is that she wanted it to sound "strange". And so a friend put her in touch with Dave Sitek of iconoclastic New York indie free jazz electro trip-hop eccentrics TV on the Radio. Strange is his oeuvre. Sitek proposed making a record that "sounds like we drank a lot of cough medicine and saw Tinkerbell". And that's pretty much what they've done.

There was a surge in Obama's army of A-list celebs when Scarlett Johansson signed on for duty

When Law & Order star Fred Thompson decided to pull out of the Republican presidential nominee race a few weeks back, the dismay in the media was palpable. The reason? That whole narrative about Thompson being the "next Reagan" -- ie. another actor turned president -- had to be dropped like a Tony Romo pass with Jessica Simpson in the stands.

The problem was that the "actor as president" paradigm is so '80s. What matters now in the American electoral system is the list of celebrities you bring to the table. And movie stars -- knowing from personal experience that most movie stars are high-school dropouts who couldn't feed themselves without the help of a personal assistant -- were at least not dumb enough to put their support behind a fellow actor.

Instead, the big news in the Republican party was the emerging faceoff between two major movie tough guys in the endorsement race. This, after Sylvester Stallone came out in support of John McCain (Perfect no? Sly played Rambo, who freed American POWs in 'Nam, and McCain actually was an American POW in 'Nam). This counters Mike Huckabee, who has the once-and-future Walker, Texas Ranger Chuck Norris behind him. And I mean literally behind him -- he's in virtually every campaign trail picture of Huckabee.

What hasn't changed from the Reagan scenario is the notion that the presidency is a "part" one plays. "There's something about matching the character with the script," Stallone was quoted as saying by way of endorsement. "And right now, the script that's being written and reality is pretty brutal and pretty hard-edged like a rough action film, and you need somebody who's been in that to deal with it."
